SMRs are a promising innovation in the field of nuclear energy. Unlike traditional large-scale nuclear reactors, SMRs are characterized by their smaller size, modular design, and enhanced safety features. These compact reactors offer several potential benefits, including lower upfront costs, scalability, and versatility in deployment.
The development of SMRs is gaining momentum worldwide, driven by the need for cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
SMRs hold promise for various applications beyond traditional electricity generation, including district heating, industrial processes and desalination. Their compact size makes them particularly suitable for deployment in remote or isolated areas, where access to traditional grid infrastructure may be limited.
The online conversation will address applications, financing and regulatory implications related to SMRs. This critical topic will be further be explored at the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam, playing a pivotal role in our collective effort to redesign energy for people and the planet.
